The Money Pit & Color Rotation - Pink

I'm participating in the Color Rotation started by Colleen over at Scrap and Run. Of course, given our current Internet woes, I'm super late in starting. Anyway, I'm starting with pink.

Shirt: Gap
Jeans: Old Navy
Belt: Target
Shoes: Target
Scarf: Vintage, thrifted
Earrings: Turkey

I don't own a whole lot of pink, clearly, since this outfit has just tiny touches of pink in it. My students told me I looked like "una vaquera elegante" - an elegant cowgirl. And I kind of like that.

Can we talk about these jeans? I don't know why I brought them here, but I did. They've belonged to all the women in my family at some point: my sister, my mom, me. They're at least five years old, possibly older, but they do have the right rise for tucking in. Also, can I just gripe that I'm not even 5'3" and these jeans are just a touch too short. What is that about?!

And I love this vintage scarf. Love it. I can't find enough ways to wear it because it's slippery and small and square, but I do try to work it in whenever I can.

Also, that's our new house. I've taken to calling it "the money pit", at least, that's what I call it in my head. We're living here rent free (in exchange for fixing it up), and using it for a "teacher/intern house". Right now, there are three of us living there; this summer there will be six. It's a family's vacation home, but they haven't used it in the two years since the earthquake.

It's a beautiful place, with a volcano view and cows next door, but I won't lie: earthquake damage is a sneaky little thing. There are the obvious fixes: broken windows, cracked walls, cracked floors. Then there are the sneaky things: a leaking toilet, the tub that no longer drains because everything shifted, electrical issues, the sink that didn't work, the fact that the bathroom smells a bit like a sewage treatment facility....

Even so, things are coming along and it feels so good - SO GOOD! - to finally unpack completely. Y'all should visit. Bring a volunteer plumber and I'll feed you for free.

  1. At least the house LOOKS spacious...I can only imagine the hidden problems. And you are looking good with your subtle touches of pink.

  4. I think those jeans are fabulous on you and that scarf totally brings the outfit to the next level.
I do not even want to mention the word earthquake as neighboring country I know just what you are talking about - although it is true that CR is so much shakier.

  5. An elegant cowgirl! I love that description. I think I might strive to be one the entire summer!
Love the touch of pink, and I really loved your kind comments on my post about dressing for flavor vs. dressing only for rules! I really have appreciated getting to know you through our blogs!

  6. Oh my, that house does sound like it needs a lot of work - I wish you the best of luck on making it into your home.

I find those square silk scarfs to be tricky as well. Most of the time I tie them on to a hand bag, but last time I knotted it a bunch of times, slipped a ring over the knot and wore it as a necklace.

    Chic on the Cheap
