Quitter in red

Skirt: Gap
Tee: J Crew
Shoes: Crocs
Earrings: Turkey
Belt: gift from my mom
Sunnies: purchased in PR

Y'all, I have a confession to make: I quit the 30x30. I wore fourteen outfits, posted nine, photographed ten, and then decided I was over. it. Why did I quit after completing two 30x30 challenges successfully? Well, for one, I felt like I had learned all I could from the challenge. For two, remember the time I had to get rid of or store about 80% of my wardrobe? Yeah, that was a lesson in consumerism greater than the challenge.

And I was already feeling pretty deprived in every other aspect of my life (we're poor, we don't have access to a car right now, there's no public transportation, and there's not a whole lot of choice when it comes to diet). Adding the challenge felt like the opposite of fun. My life is pretty bare bones right now, so I'd at least like full access to the 20% of my closet that's still in my possession.

Anyway, my aunt M got me this red skirt at Gap when I was back in Puerto Rico visiting family. It was $3.97, so I went for it, even though it's a size larger than I usually wear. I'm not sure if I love the way it fits because it's a little lower in the hips than I'd like, but I think I can make it work. I think it might also be good for a mini alteration with my remedial sewing skills - I should be able to take in a waist, right?

  4. I LOVE your outfit. You always look so chic. And I am happy you have food and clothing and a roof over your head. I know from personal experience how hard it can be to do without all of the other things you mention. I know you will make it through this rough period. I am thinking of you.... cheers! xoxo

  5. @ Terri: We've been living in a restaurant and eating whatever needs to be consumed ASAP. Now that we're moving out of the restaurant, we're using up what's left. Mostly, there's rice, sometimes beans, and an assortment of extras (eggs, yucca, potatoes, chayote...).

  7. I certainly don't blame you for quitting, and you are like the fifth person I follow who has. And that is why I won't do it - who wants to ban themselves from clothes they already own for a month?
I'm sure you can alter the skirt in a cinch. I really love the color!

  12. You can't feel ashamed of quitting! You have great reasons.

This outfit is so cute. I love the casual feel, but you're still dressed up in that skirt.

  13. You CAN take in a waist, I'm sure you can!

You're not quitting. You're just not finishing. :) And I think all of your reasons are entirely valid, not that what I think matters. I'm just sayin'.

  14. I just LOVE to mix stipped black-and-white with red. (this skirt is red, right?) I don't know why, but it's the kind of combo that always wins me over.
