Thankful

Y'all, I live here. This is my front yard. Let me say that again, because it is so amazingly beautiful, that I can't even believe it: this is my front yard.

I have to admit that sometimes I have a crappy attitude about living in the middle of nowhere. We have no phone service at our house, not even cell signal. We can't get Internet until the state-run communications/electric company approves the request for phone service that was put in for this house ten years ago (yeah, you read that right). We don't have a tv, can't get mail, and have electrical issues that I won't even go into because they are myriad and complicated.

And I'll readily admit that I'm not outdoorsy and don't believe I'm cut out for country living. If this were Green Acres, I'd be Eva Gabor. But this, this beauty around me? This reminds to be thankful.

And I am thankful. I'm thankful for the experience, for our sweet, sweet students, for the mountains and volcanos around us, for the strawberries grown in this region, for the hospitality and friendliness that's been showered upon us. I'm thankful for my coworkers, for the fact that Kiku is here with us, for the miraculous health care I received here, for the fact that I'm forced to take a mini vacation every three months to keep me refreshed. I'm thankful for the blog and the connection that it provides to the rest of the world....

And seriously, how amazing is it that I live here?

  1. This outfit is so cute! What I love most about it is that I have some similar pieces to recreate this look for myself! Thanks for the inspiration. Plus, your dog is too cute.

  4. Your front yard is gorgeous as are you. And the attitude you've maintained is really inspiring and makes my complaint of having to study for my sociology test tomorrow seem petty. I miss you bunches and hope to see you sooner rather than later. love you.

  6. You look terrific. And that place looks amazing. I think I would feel a little Green Acres in that situation, too. I am always so impressed with the work you are doing!

  7. You look lovely but it must suck not having net or phone. How do you cope. Luck the surrounds are so beautiful, but I bet your missing everything a bit. Do you know if they are likely to approve it soon? or is it totally up in the air still?

  9. You are blessed my sister, good thing is that even though we all have our crappy complaining days you are able to see the beauty that God has blessed you with, I bet it must be hard, especially for a city girl but I say enjoy this time..maybe to reflect on life, on God. I hope you are doing well. You are wearing my favorite shade of green. =D

  10. I don't know how i'd be able to handle living like that.. I'm just so used to having technology and internet at my fingertips... but to think like 10 years ago, I didn't have any of it, and still functioned pretty well! Now I'm just so dependent on it and it makes me kind of sad. I hope you're adjusting well over there. Your front yard is breathtaking!

  13. @ Elizabeth: I miss you, too! Come visit, girl!
@ Chantele: I don't think that we'll get phone service soon, but our neighbors are putting in a request for Internet, which we'll pay for. We're providing the router and a wireless extender thing which should mean we'll be just fine soonish.
@ Terri: I honestly have no idea. We have some truly beautiful plants around here, which makes me think I should get some kind of book so I can start identifying some of them.
@ Shey: I really am blessed, I just have a hard time seeing it sometimes. Jejeje Pero, sí, qué bendición estar aquí.

As far as life without internet and phones, let's just say I'm adjusting, though there's been some crazy withdrawal.
