Better late than never
All remixed except skirt
Skirt (worn as dress): Indian Festival at Penn's Landing (2009)
Belt: Target
Earrings: Target
Bracelet: gift from uncle
Sandals: Target
So last year all the bloggers were turning their maxi skirts into strapless dresses. And I didn't own any maxi skirts, so I didn't follow suit. I got this skirt last fall at an Indian Festival, and I have never worn it, partly because it's so stinkin' long and partly because it's more hippie chic than my usual style.
But as I was cleaning out my closet on Saturday, I rediscovered this crazy skirt. I tried it on and remembered that it's about three inches too long to be conducive to graceful walking. I'm not quite 5'3" (159 cm) and I try to avoid anything too long because I feel like I just look shorter than I am. So then I tried yanking the skirt up.
Add a belt and the skirt becomes a dress. And it's still long! This is usually an awkward length for me, but I like the way the whole thing turned out. I'm not sure that the skirt has suddenly become a keeper, but I did manage to wear something I've never worn before.
Even Kiku approves.

Nice look. You look really great, and those colors complement your skin tone nicely.

Wow it is super long! You could hem it a bit and then use the extra fabric as a circle scarf this fall!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great as a dress, but I do like Liz's idea of hemming and then making a head scarf with the left over material
ReplyDeleteI'm normally not a fan of mid calf length skirts/dresses (ironically you can see today's post on that... our boho styles match) but, I really like this on you!
ReplyDeleteI love this! It IS really long but I keep hearing that the mid-calf length is going to be big for fall. Which works well for me because apparently I'm not allowed to wear anything much shorter than that at work. ;)
ReplyDeleteI really love how this turned out for you. It's great as a dress! I think you look super classy and graceful in it.
Isn't it great to rediscover an item like that? It's almost like going shopping! :)
Great blog...love your outfit!!
ReplyDelete@ Liz and Meek: My only hesitation with hemming is that there are mirrors and beads on that last tier of fabric that jingle when I walk. I'd totally lose all my fun sound effects if I went that route. ;)
ReplyDeleteI do like the idea of the scarf, though....
Versatility!! I love it. This looks fab.

Muy bonita seniorita! Bravo on wearing something your hand't worn in a long time , high five! =D
ReplyDeleteOh that is cool! I've seen that trend a lot but like you, I just don't have any maxi skirts.
